vintage 1960s WERLE gown / black one shoulder jersey dress XS
Stellar black jersey gown by Daniel Werle of Beverly Hills, circa very late 1960s vintage.
Bare left arm and shoulder with hidden side seam zip closure.
Diagonal neckline with white raglan poets sleeve of double layer acetate blend- wonderful weight and a bit of sheen, which plays perfectly off the black jersey body.
Subtle gathers at the front collar bone and shoulder for a fluid drape.
The sleeve is very full towards the lower arm/ wrist, with gathered end- not elastic, and meant to be dramatic!
Fluidly cut jersey body has side seams and a back center seam.
While not snug, it drapes and hugs the curves perfectly.
Fit is a bit streamlined from the chest to the natural waist, and full to the hem.
The chest, top of the right shoulder, and uppermost back are lined in a nylon blend- with a tiny bit of shaping for the breasts via very light diagonal darts.
The rest of the gown is unlined.
Condition is very good to excellent- this appears very seldom worn/ handled.
Exceedingly clean.
Zipper works perfectly.
No signs of alterations.
A couple of really minor snags/ blemishes to the sleeve- barely noticeable but obviously formal pieces need to be in excellent condition to be properly enjoyed.
A really striking piece from a scarce designer- this is a stunner!
Measurements:
34" chest allowance (17" armpit to armpit), while a 35" or 36" maximum might be able to just squeeze in if rib cage is on the slight side, there isn't much give
approximately 28" natural waist- no seams to measure off of; there is a bit a give as needed from the jersey
approximately 39" hip allowance; again, with some give from the jersey
